In particular it is also important to our founder who has Dyslexia – it is always reasonable to make reasonable adjustments.
Far too often accessibility is an afterthought applied haphazardly to websites that are not well suited to everyone’s needs we have decided to take a different approach and have kept it front of our minds. We default using a dark background which helps readability for dyslexic people and reduces the effects of light sensitivities that affect many people including some with Autism.
For those who use a keyboard to navigate we have made all pages including those with slideshows keyboard navigational with the Tab/Shift+Tab keys – pop-up menus not a problem.
For those who use screen readers all non-slideshow pages should be already optimised. For slideshow pages we have added an option to convert the page please press the tab key to bring up that option. We had originally thought of duplicating the site having a screen reader friendly version of each slideshow however as many people who use screen readers have disabilities (a protected characteristic) we did not want to have the ability to distinguish when a page has been optimised for screen reading. Thus, all changes when changing view mode are made device side without us knowing, no cookies, no tracking.
We strive to do better, so please if you have any feedback on how we can do so let us know by getting in touch. As we grow and improve so will our accessibility features, but we have strived to make a good starting point.
